Electrical Hardware

Just getting the hardware together for the power supply for the KosmoNought synthesizer.

Mains comes in through the IEC connector and is switched on both the Live and Neutral. The switch was free – it was surplus to requirements at the company where I work. It has a neon bulb inside which illuminates when the switch is closed. But as the switch will be around the side of the synth case, I thought I’d fit another neon indicator (the green one) on a front panel. The other item is a fuse holder which will be mounted alongside the mains socket and switch.

All the mains connectors are insulated, from the rubber boot on the rear of the IEC connector to all the spade terminals that lead to the PSU itself. For the green neon and the fuse holder, I shall be using heatshrink sleeving to cover the soldered joints.

These are all worth doing for your own safety when tinkering around inside the box, and it gives a much more professional look and feel to things.
